If you’re an aspiring blogger, or simply an individual who wants to start up a blog site yet knows little about it’s technical side, you’re in the right page. Get to know the man behind my own website.
Remember the time my old website kept crashing? Some of you guys sent me direct messages telling me that you can’t access the blog page. So I tried to troubleshoot the problem but I just couldn’t fix it. I almost gave up on my blog until this guy showed up.
Meet Manuel Schuster a.k.a mrdigitalnomad.com
Just to give you guys a short background: I’ve known him ever since last year (2016) because we traveled together in Boracay (See Vlog here), he used to live in the Island and lately just moved here in Manila. Ever since he’s been very focused with work, he’s an expert when it comes to social media & the technicalities of blogs / websites. He owns a website called www.philihappy.com which I knew first even before his own blog now. He’s also a lifesaver, he saved my own site from self-destruction *wink*
Going back, I made this post for those people asking me “how to start blogging?” and I will also give you a few tips on the basics of Blogging 101. Of course, what I am sharing with you is based from my experiences as a young blogger.
5 Things You Need To Start Off With
The name of your blog.
I first entitled my website as the Queen of Black. Back when I was 16 I’ve always loved wearing black, all my ensembles are composed of different style variants and silhouettes of all black outfits, and for 4 years ever since 2013 I’ve been known for the nickname QOB. Yet now I have failed to keep the branding. This is a common crisis experienced by bloggers / brands: Identity crisis, which I will talk about in another blog post. Lately, after tons of travels and inspirations from all over the countries and places I have visited, I’ve come to experiment with my style and decided to add colors to my getups. It was a sudden change of aura when I started to transition my style, but as what I’ve said in my previous blog, “Change isn’t always a bad thing”. (Read here: https://chaocampo.com/change-isnt-always-a-bad-thing/)
Don’t worry, if you’re still unsure of your blog title, you can always use your name. Since my blog is for personal use, I took my name as its title. It also makes it convenient for my followers to find me easily on different social media platforms, since I use @chaocampo as my username for almost all my social media accounts.
The content you want to focus on.
My personal content is more on Fashion, Lifestyle, and Travel, since these are my strengths. If you’re starting out, know what content you’re interested in and something that you’re passionate about to produce daily, in that way you are already shaping your personal brand.
Invest on necessary gadgets like a camera & a laptop.
Of course, when you write, your audience needs to see visuals. To post your articles online you have to own a laptop or whatever desktop computer you are using. These are the basic necessities for blogging.
Produce content in advance.
Before you launch your website make sure you have content to post ASAP. Draft your following post so that when you finally open up a website, you can just transfer everything there.
Your audience wouldn’t want to have an empty blog site when they give it a visit.
And lastly, the Website.
This is where it’ll all start. Technically, this platform is your personal space / your online diary. My first ever website was created through Blogger/Blogspot, since it was the easiest platform for me I stuck to it for 4 years. I created my own simple layout, and worked with what I know as best as I can. Although it wasn’t the most organized, sleek, and professional type of website, I still give credit to it since it was the first and still, it brought me to places.
Manuel helped a lot when my blog decided to gave up on me. When it comes to the technical side of blogging which doesn’t fall under my expertise, and if you’re seeking assistance from anyone like I did before, Manuel is the perfect person to talk to. The first thing he did was to transfer my old content from Blogspot to WordPress, second he created a clean and uncomplicated layout, and he even helped me with purchasing my personal domain including the hosting. He made sure my fully furbished website was intact before he passed it to me. As you can see now, the blog is working well. I also love that my website is optimized for different gadgets. Wherever you access it, may it be on your laptop, phone, tablets, etc. it still looks neat.
