Budapest for the First Time

January 2-5, 2024

I finally made it to Hungary, my first new country this 2024. To be honest, I wasn’t too excited for it because it wasn’t big on my EU Bucketlist, but right when we arrived into the city center I instantly regretted not putting it into my list of countries in Europe. Budapest is a gem and easily one of the prettiest cities I’ve seen in Europe. I know nothing about it but it is apparently rich in history and culture. We booked an Airbnb named BMG Apartments near the St. Stephen's Basilica. This accommodation is quite spacious and can easily fit 4 people, it has 3 beds, one which is in the living room, the two other beds are in the loft-type bedroom, perfect for the 4 of us traveling, which is me, my boyfriend, his sister and mom. We drove from Zagreb which was around 3hrs away.

For our Itinerary, we were all pretty chill about it. On the first day we ate at a brunch spot called Meron Budapest, which was quite close by our apartment. They have specialty coffee and a brunch menu. I ordered an Avocado Toast without egg, they have big servings, so it was filling. After eating, we walked around to check some spots and to sightsee. We ended up craving some sweets and we ate at this dessert boutique called Mon Petit. I called it a day when we got back in the apartment after the walk, it was getting really cold for me and I wasn't properly layered.

On the second day, the main agenda was to do a walking tour to get to know more about Budapest. We did a free walking tour with a local tour guide named Lara, you can book your free walking tours here. She was a very great guide, she explained the history of some of the monuments and some significant events. I would definitely recommend this walking tour as it helps you get to know the city and the country’s history and culture. Here are some of the photos I’ve taken during the walk:
