2020 Typhoons in the Philippines: Ways We Can Help

The Philippines has always been a vulnerable country. It is a part of the pacific ring of fire. Thus, it is prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoons. Just recently, super typhoon Rolly (a.k.a Goni), known to be the world's most powerful tropical cyclone in 2020, hit the Philippines. The intensity of the super typhoon was not as bad as expected around the areas in Metro Manila. It made landfall in the region of Bicol twice on Sunday, November 1. It went on to hit land two more times in the Region of Calabarzon as a typhoon before rapidly weakening into a tropical storm over the West Philippine Sea.

A week after, Typhoon Ulysses (a.k.a Vamco), the Philippines' 21st tropical cyclone for 2020, hit Luzon hardest from November 11 to 12. The typhoon unleashed powerful winds and torrential rain that killed dozens of people, destroyed thousands of homes, and left areas of the island region flooded. Ulysses has become the deadliest tropical cyclone to hit the country this year, so far. It is an unexpected storm surge that shocked us all.

According to PAGASA, there might be four more storms before 2020 ends. Places that were affected by recent typhoons Rolly & Ulysses are still recovering, and without proper help from our local government, how would these people stand a chance to face four more storms?

Let’s not wait for the government to do their jobs. Let’s do what we can to help those in need.

Here’s a few ways we can help:

1. Inform, Promote, Support

Sharing a few Instagram posts that you could share to friends, relatives, groups, etc., promote through reposting on your stories / IG feeds to help inform.

Accounts to follow on Instagram for more credible summarized information regarding current issues, updates from recent tragedies, transparency reports, etc.:
